Welcome to School Of Energy, Environment And Natural Resources
In the Sixth Five Year Plan, the Madurai Kamaraj University started a new School on Energy, Environment and Natural Resources supported by University Grants Commission and Tamil Nadu Government in 1981 with a view to carry out teaching, research and extension activities on these socially relevant and vital areas having an interdisciplinary approach with the faculty members drawn from different relevant disciplines like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Engineering. This interdisciplinary School thus bestows its interest in looking at ways and means of harnessing natural resources leaving a clean and healthy environment leading to development for which the foremost requirement comes from Energy.
This school has grown rapidly to become a multidisciplinary department as a full-fledged, self-supporting, post-graduate, research department and creates multidisciplinary programmes through our research centres.
The School has been doing excellent research, extension and outreach activities in the field of Energy and Environment including Marine Environmental Studies. The school has 5 emerging departments along with 2 research centres to promote the research and it is running successfully for the scientific community. All the faculty members of this department are actively involved in research and development in various specialization fields. The department has a wide range of activities ranging from promoting high-end basic research and development of cutting edge technologies, on one hand, to service the technological requirements of the common man through development of appropriate skills and technologies on the other.
This School now is divided into six independent but strongly interacting Departments and four centres for carrying out its objectives smoothly.
